Eternal Weekend Elks Lodge 2026
Eternal weekend ’26 Elks Lodge
The leaves are falling, so it must be time to go to NA Eternal weekend again. Unfortunately a busy schedule and Halloween weekend kept me from the main events this year, but I was happy to sneak up on a beautiful Thursday to play some of my favorite old cards!
I was joined at the event by fellow Rocs Rajah and Jason, and the Akron Legionnaires (we should get a big photo next time!). It was great to see many other friends and, of course, meet some new ones.
I was lucky to have a couple of hours prior to the event, and had time to stand in a couple of artist lines at the convention center – while I wasn’t able to play, Eternal Weekend looked great, and was bustling. I was able to meet Sandra Everingham for the first time as an adult, and catch up with RK Post, who had some premodern art that absolutely popped on new mats. Somehow, it has been since EW’16 that I last got an RK mat, and like every good old school player, I had forgotten one for the event, so it was a perfect opportunity to pick one up.
Ken Meyer Jr was the artist guest of honor at Elks – thanks to him as always for just being awesome!
I don’t have any awesome results or stats to share from this event, but just wanted to highlight the comradery and growth! 76 players showed up – many of them playing atog - and 7 rounds of magic flew by. I chose a deck that would best pair with the bar, and managed to walk away with the “most creative” prize – an awesome timetwister proxy/alter that is playable in future events.

For those unfamiliar with this deck, I have been playing it for years at this point, and I’ll die on the hill of “it’s not as silly as it looks”. Years ago I wanted to build a competitive deck that featured some of my favorite old cards (Merfolk, Fallen Angel, Berserk, and the good ones). It has a lot of answers to common archetypes, a serious element of surprise, and paces to go for the win about the same time Tome hits the board across the table. Little flails like islandwalk and several (tutor-able) singleton answers to common issues has tipped the needle well above an overall .500 winning percentage, if I have to guess.
I “debuted” the original list and won the 2020 Ohio Kobold Cup (the last large-ish local live event of the before-times) and haven’t really looked back on it. It’s perfect for an event like this. If you’re looking to mix things up, it is more than a meme. Fair warning, it struggles moderately against swords to plowshares and Tabernacle, but I really can’t think of a “hell matchup” for it.
It has been 10(ish) years since I’ve really dove into 93/94 OS as a format, and throughout countless amazing events, the offsite Eternal Weekend events are a fixture in my personal schedule. Some of my fondest memories playing OS have come from the Elk’s lodge, which has walked that perfect line of being a “serious casual” event. Also, those that know me know I am partial to the EC Ruleset, so yay. This event is an obvious passion project by Jimmy/Dice city games, and it shows. It has become one of the most welcoming and relaxed places to play the best magic –keep it up, I look forward to it every year!
Stay tuned, hopefully some more 93/94 EC coming to NE Ohio soon! Cheers.
